You will need for sewing:

  • Sewing machine and pins
  • Rotary cutter, ruler, and mat
  • Flexible measuring tape and an extra-long one is helpful
  • Ballpoint or stretch sewing machine needle. It will help for attaching elastic
  • 6 to 9 yards 45 degrees wide fabric, such as quilting cotton
  • 6 1/2 to 9 yards 1/4-inch-wide flat elastic
  • Thread
  • Use a larger size than the sheet you are making (flat sheets)
  • Fitted sheets that are too large and it is for the mattress
  • Duvet covers

You should follow these instructions what are given below:

Measure your mattress

First of all, measure the width, depth, and length of your mattress. If you are sewing filled sheets with fabric so measure the depth of the mattress. Second step, you should cut a piece of fabric based on your measurements. Like, plus 2 x the depth, plus an additional 16 inches for seam allowances and tuck-in 8 inches on each side. The length of the mattress, plus 2 x the depth, plus 16 inches, width 2 x depth, plus 16 inches, and length 2-inch depth plus 16.

Prepare your corner makings

Mark this spot with along one outer edge and measure over the depth of the mattress plus 8 inches from the corner of the fabric. Fabric for making bed sheets is also important. Measure up the depth of the mattress plus 8 inches from the marked spot and put a dot at the spot. Draw a line on the edge of the sheet that dots to the mark connecting.

Prepare your corner makings

Cut out the square

Start to cut out the square and follow the lines you drew also repeat on the other 3 corners of the fabric or sheet.

Fold the fabric

Fold the fabric and bring the cut edges of each corner together besides the right sides of the homemade fitted sheet should face in. Then pin the cut edges together at each corner.

In this way make bedding by sewing the cut edges together with a 5-inch seam allowance and continue sewing fitted sheets by folding the hems over .5-inch. Also, you can skip this step if you are already using a flat sheet that would be better. Next, fold the hems over another 0.5-inch and pin.

Sew the hems

You may ask that how much elastic for fitted sheet? We will be providing this answer if needed. But now you have to leave 1-inch wide gaps about 8 inches away from the sewn-together corners on each side of the sheet. You might know that this allows you to thread the elastic through to make the sheet fitted. And next you have to cut 4 pieces of elastic that measure is 16-inches long.

Thread elastic

Thread 1 piece of elastic through the hem in one corner of the sheet and pin one end of the elastic to the gap on one side. It will help you push it through the hemmed edge of the sheet. Besides, pull the elastic so that the sheet corner gathers around it and pin the other end of the elastic to the sheet on the other end.

Thread elastic

Sew the elastic both side

Now you have to sew the elastic in place on both sides of the corner and then finish making bedding by threading the elastic through the hems on the remaining three corners.

Now we are the step of how to sew pillowcase

Sewing custom pillow cases for you bed is super simple! I will walk you through how to do it in the article. So, you have to choose cotton fabric for the pillow case. Cotton will be soft or not it doesn’t matter. It can be soft, durable, and breathable-just be sure to wash and dry the fabric before you cut, as cotton has a tendency to shrink.

So, you have to measure the pillow you are covering to create a patter. And your pillow can be 20 inches by 30 inches. Standard pillowcase pattern for sewing is the most important. So, you need to add room for the seam allowances and the top finished edge. So, you have to cut your fabric to 21-inch wide, leaving room for 1/2 inches seam allowances, and 41 inches long because you added 11 inches to the length to make the nice finished fold at the opening of the pillow.

To get started, you have to mark the fold area with tailor’s chalk. And mark one inch from the edge, and make one more marking 6 inch from the edge. Fold at the 6 inches mark toward the wrong side of the fabric and press. Then tuck under at the one-inch mark and press again. Follow those same steps for the second piece of fabric. Next, unfold your fabric, and line it up at all corners and pressing lines. With right sides facing each other, pin the pillowcase pieces together along these 3 unfinished edges.

Stitch around

Now we are going to sew around those three sides using a three / three-inch seam allowance. You can use reverse thread so that you see the sewing better. However, you will use matching threads. Backstitching at the beginning, sew until you come to the first corner. Make sure the needle is around, lift the pressure band and turn the fabric, lower the pressure gauge, and continue sewing around these 2 ends. Finish the seam allowance by zigzagging or neglecting sewing on the sewing machine. Make sure the side seams are lined, turning the pressed folds to the wrong side of the fabric. And sew the pin 1/8 inch away from the folding edge. Turn the pillow to the right. Press this crease once more and press and hold the fold about 4 inches back to the right of the pillow. Now tack the side seams by sewing the back up along the line-up and the front line. This will keep the fold in place. Put your pillow inside and that’s it! So, from now on you will be able to easily sew your pillowcases on the sales machine. Hope this helps.
